Flinders' Primary Teacher Nominated for Top Teacher Award

The school community at 天美 Flinders Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast is celebrating one of its specialist teachers, nominated for a top teaching award.

Flinders鈥 Primary School Maths Specialist, Mrs Sarndra Street has been shortlisted as one of the nominees in the prestigious Queensland College of Teachers , Excellence in Teaching Award.

Sarndra is also a Flinders Distinguished Teacher and has been coaching staff to embrace best practice as a pedagogical coach for a number of years.

Flinders鈥 Head of Primary, Mrs Trudi Edwards congratulated Sarndra for her commitment to her students across the Primary School.

鈥淪chools can only be exceptional when they are filled with exceptional teachers who love what they do, and we are fortunate to have such teachers here at Flinders,鈥 Trudi said.

鈥淭his nomination recognises Mrs Sarndra Street鈥檚 deep commitment to inspiring a genuine love of Mathematics in each Flinders student,鈥 she said.

Sarndra provides Maths Specialist support and teaching to students as part of Flinders鈥 unique differentiated learning program, known as Ready For鈥

The program provides specialist teaching support and targeted activities in Numeracy and Literacy concepts for students from Year 1 to Year 6, and is boosting student outcomes, engagement and satisfaction.

Sarndra ensures the听Ready For鈥听Application students are engaged in challenging tasks, which stretch them to think deeply and apply logical reasoning, all whilst furthering their love of all things Mathematics.

The praised Sarndra for her nomination, noting, 鈥淪arndra is deeply committed to inspiring a genuine love of Mathematics in each Flinders student, but specifically those she teaches in Years 3 to 6.

鈥淢aths can be a challenging and often daunting subject area for students. However, for the students in Sarndra鈥檚 class, that is never the case.

鈥淭his was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions which necessitated online learning.

鈥淭his was a period of time associated with learning losses for many students across Australia; however, thanks to Sarndra鈥檚 persistence and innovative practice, that was not the case for her students.

鈥淔eedback and personalised learning pedagogy is a signature of her practice, and she provided daily feedback to each of her students across four year levels during online learning.

鈥淭his helped her students to achieve and thrive in their Mathematics learning.鈥
